While there are dozens of market pundits who make price predictions in the crypto markets day in and day out, it is very rare for a price prediction to turn out to be accurate.
However, one Reddit user had made a Bitcoin price prediction back in 2014 that has turned out to be correct.
The user, who goes by the username oldie101, had posted on the MarkMyWords sub on Apr. 18, 2014, “Bitcoin will be valued at $100,000 a coin by 2025.”
The day the user had written the original post, Bitcoin was valued slightly below $500.
Back then, the post elicited a snarky comment, “Keep dreaming.”
However, as the king coin’s price surpassed the $100,000 mark on May 8, the post began to attract attention. Users began posting congratulatory messages and asking if the user got rich.
But the original poster told everyone that he “unfortunately” didn’t HODL BTC. HODL, or “hold on for dear life,” is a popular term in the crypto community that refers to the practice of holding crypto assets even during bear markets.
The user said he kept buying and selling the cryptocurrency throughout the years.
“Been saying that for the past 11 years. But life’s pretty good without the bitcoin, so can’t complain,” he added.
Note that Bitcoin first reached the $100,000 mark on Dec. 4, 2024 — a month after Donald Trump won the 2024 presidential election on Nov. 5, 2024.
The cryptocurrency reached its record high of $108,786 on Jan. 20 — the same day Trump was inaugurated.
As per Kraken’s price feed, Bitcoin was exchanging hands at $103,313 at press time.
