KARACHI: Asif Azeem, a prominent figure in Pakistan’s sports community and president of the Pakistan Softball Federation, succumbed to heart-related complications here on Thursday. He was 53.
Asif had been hospitalised for 14 days following a severe heart attack earlier this month, as confirmed by his son.
The funeral was held after Asr prayer on Friday in Karachi.
Despite ongoing medical care, his condition deteriorated, marking the end of a decades-long career dedicated to advancing sports across the nation.
Renowned for his multifaceted contributions, Asif’s influence extended far beyond softball. He held pivotal roles with the Pakistan Blind Cricket Team, Special Olympics Pakistan and the Pakistan Olympic Association, where he recently served as media coordinator.
Asif’s tenure as Softball Federation president saw the sport gain visibility, with national tournaments and grassroots programs expanding under his leadership.
His passing leaves a void in Pakistan’s administrative landscape, remembered for the lives he transformed through sport.
