As the U.S. stock market falls on trade war fears, infrastructure is emerging as a dynamic and fast growing alternative asset class for institutional investors–and possibly, individuals too. “As we think about where the world is going, we think alternatives—and infrastructure more specifically—have a home in individual investor portfolios,” Sean Klimczak, global head of Blackstone’s $55 billion infrastructure business, said in an interview after speaking on stage at the third annual Forbes/SHOOK Top Teams Summit in Miami last week. Over the past 15 years, infrastructure investing has seen an eightfold increase in the institutional world, with capital invested surging from…
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has reportedly targeted a manufacturer of poppers, an inhalant drug that has gained increasingly mainstream popularity as an adjunct to clubbing and sexual activity. The drug has long been sold in convenience stores under a legal loophole. Double Scorpio, an Austin-based poppers manufacturer, issued a statement on its website Thursday stating that the company had “stopped all operations following a search and seizure at our offices by the FDA.” The reported raid comes after Robert F. Kennedy Jr. took the helm of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which oversees the FDA. Kennedy, an…
Korean automaker Kia (000270.KS), is killing it. This is key, is mission, and EVs are part of that, and also includes electrified internal combustion, which is hybrids and plug in hybrids and so on,” Steven Center, Kia Americas COO & EVP told Yahoo Finance. “But…

Elon Musk and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick watch as President Donald Trump walks to Marine One … [+] at the White House.Getty Images Trump administration officials have recently called for removing government expenditures from the nation’s measure of gross domestic product. GDP is famously the sum of national spending on consumption (C), investment (I), government purchases (G) and net exports (NX). So, the proposal would be to drop the “G” from U.S. GDP. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Elon Musk have expressed support in TV interviews and on social media for the idea. Yet, the underlying premise makes little sense.…
Eight years ago, President Donald Trump spoke about the U.S.-Canada relationship in glowing terms. He hosted Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the White House in February 2017 for one of his first joint appearances alongside a foreign leader. NEW DELHI: England batsman Harry Brook has been banned from the Indian Premier League for two years after he pulled out at the last minute to focus on international cricket, local media reported Friday. Brook also withdrew from his contract with the Delhi side last season after the death of his grandmother. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has been informed about Brooks’s ban, an unnamed official from the Board of Control for Cricket…
Songsak Rohprasit | Moment | Getty ImagesWhen saving for retirement, it’s easy to funnel money into a pre-tax 401(k) plan or individual retirement account without planning for future taxes. Those pre-tax funds, however, can be handy in some cases, experts say.Often, investors roll pre-tax 401(k) accounts into traditional IRAs, and the withdrawals in retirement trigger regular income taxes, depending on your tax bracket. “Your IRA is an IOU to the IRS,” certified public accountant Ed Slott said during a session last week at the Horizons retirement planning conference in Coronado, California. CNN — Americans just got some reassurances that inflation was slowing, and not reaccelerating, last month. The Producer Price Index, a wholesale inflation gauge that is being closely watched for tariff-related impacts, showed that price hikes slowed substantially in February. The PPI index was unchanged from January, and rose 3.2% for the 12 months ended in February, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data released Thursday. That marked a sharp slowdown from January, when prices rose 0.6% and 3.7% for those respective periods. Economists were expecting wholesale-level inflation to cool amid falling energy prices, and that was the case: Energy…

And by weak, I mean the kind of slow-motion collapse economists like me get paid to anticipate. I’ve spent decades teaching economics, and one of the most common questions I get is: “Are we heading into a recession?” I see five waving red…
