The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to withdraw from all events under the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) amid recent tensions with Pakistan, according to Indian media. India has not played bilateral cricket against Pakistan since 2007 due to tense relations between the countries. Both countries only play each other in international tournaments on neutral grounds. Last month, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi was appointed as the new president of the ACC. The BCCI informed the ACC about its decision to pull out from the Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup in Sri Lanka next…
RAWALPINDI: Fakhar Zaman and Salman Mirza starred with the bat and ball, respectively, as Lahore Qalandars secured their place in the HBL Pakistan Super League playoffs at the expense of Peshawar Zalmi at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday, winning by 26 runs in a rain-affected match. With the contest cut down to 13 overs per side due to a downpour, Qalandars put up 149-8, thanks to Fakhar’s 60 off 36 (seven fours and three sixes) before Salman’s (4-31) restricted Zalmi to 123-8 as they failed to replace fourth-placed Qalandars in the PSL standings with only one point separating the…
Renowned Pakistani climber Sirbaz Khan on Sunday successfully summited Mount Kangchenjunga (8,586 metres), the third highest peak in the world situated in Nepal this morning without supplemental oxygen. With this latest accomplishment, he becomes the first Pakistani in history to complete all 14 of the world’s 8,000-metre peaks — commonly referred to as the eight-thousanders — without any oxygen support, a feat achieved by only a handful of elite mountaineers globally. Sirbaz had earlier become the first Pakistani climber to have summited all 14 mountains with the height of over 8,000m in the world in October last year. Imagine Nepal,…
DORTMUND: Borussia Dortmund cruised past relegated Holstein Kiel 3-0 on Saturday to finish fourth and snatch the last Champions League spot for next season, in the best comeback of the last seven matchdays in Bundesliga history. Niko Kovac’s Dortmund won six of their last seven matches to climb from 10th to fourth in the standings and finish on 57 points, two ahead of Freiburg who lost 3-1 at home to third-placed Eintracht Frankfurt. Kovac had taken over in February with the team in 11th place after the departure of Nuri Sahin following a disappointing first half to the season. “We…

RAWALPINDI: Babar Azam played a masterpiece here at a jam-packed Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Saturday. But the captain’s knock could not help Peshawar Zalmi cross the line thanks to an imposing total put up by Karachi Kings. Babar’s 49-ball 94 — studded with 10 fours and four sixes — was the standout innings of the high-scoring match in which Zalmi sought to overhaul the 238-run target as the HBL Pakistan Super League X resumed with a bang after a nine-day hiatus due to military clashes between India and Pakistan. But despite Babar’s show, Zalmi fell short by 23 runs in…
Trump lowered tariffs on China. Here’s why that won’t spare Americans from price hikes and shortages
CNN — The steep drop in tariff rates on Chinese goods shipped to the United States might have consumers thinking there’s significant relief in sight — at least compared to before. But in practice it might not feel that way. With timing of the essence given the new rates are only temporary, businesses are rushing to complete orders and get products made in China on ships and planes while tariffs are at a minimum of 30%, versus 145% — and they are paying a premium to do so. That’s bound to eat into the savings that businesses would otherwise see…
Kate_sept2004 | E+ | Getty ImagesLong-term care can be costly, extending well beyond $100,000. Yet, financial advisors say many households aren’t prepared to manage the expense.”People don’t plan for it in advance,” said Carolyn McClanahan, a physician and certified financial planner based in Jacksonville, Florida. “It’s a huge problem.”Over half, 57%, of Americans who turn 65 today will develop a disability serious enough to require long-term care, according to a 2022 report published by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Urban Institute. Such disabilities might include cognitive or nervous system disorders like dementia, Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s…
