AFP via Getty Images Oracle shares have soared 99% since the beginning of 2025 – with more than half of that gain coming in pre-market trading on Wednesday. Why did this happen? After all, the Austin-based tech company announced results for the first quarter of its fiscal year 2026 that fell short of expectations. What sent Oracle stock soaring another 54 percentage points was the company’s outlook for the future of its cloud infrastructure business, according to CNBC. The future didn’t take…

Kuldeep Yadav returned figures of 4-7 to lead holders India to a crushing nine-wicket win over hosts United Arab Emirates in their opening match of the men’s Asia Cup 2025 on Wednesday. India romped home to victory in 4.3 overs after left-handed opener Abhishek Sharma hit 30 off 16 balls and vice-captain Shubman Gill stood unbeaten on 20. But it was the bowlers who…
Lighthouse Films | Digitalvision | Getty ImagesThe U.S. Department of the Treasury in August released a preliminary list of 68 occupations that may be eligible for President Donald Trump’s “no tax on tips” deduction. But some jobs from the list ultimately may not qualify, experts say. Both parties floated “no tax on tips” during the 2024 presidential campaign, and Republicans enacted the measure via their “big beautiful bill” in early July. The provision allows certain workers to deduct up to $25,000 of “qualified tips” yearly from 2025 to 2028. The tax break phases out, or gets smaller, once modified adjusted gross income exceeds…

Sportspersons should never be expected to carry the weight of what happened five months ago, and they should not be required to do the bidding of their governments on a cricket field. Around three years ago, Shaheen Shah Afridi sat on the periphery of an ICC Academy training ground in Dubai when the Indian team arrived at the venue. The images that followed would warm billions of hearts around the world. Shaheen’s right-leg was in a brace, a consequence of an ill-fated dive in Galle, Sri Lanka, that ruled him out of cricket for four months. He helped himself off…

TOKYO: Haruka Kitaguchi can expect a hero’s welcome when she takes to the field at Tokyo’s National Stadium for the World Athletics Championships next week but recent injury woes mean the Olympic javelin champion may struggle to defend her title. The 27-year-old shot to fame in 2023 when her final throw of 66.73 metres in Budapest made her the first Japanese woman to win a world title in a field event. Her celebrity status in Japan reached new heights last year when she repeated the feat in Paris, becoming the first Japanese woman to win an Olympic track and field…

LONDON: The 2026 World Cup could be North America’s last without urgent climate adaptation, according to a new study highlighting extreme weather threats. The “Pitches in Peril” report found that 10 of the 16 venues are at very high risk of experiencing extreme heat stress conditions. By 2050, nearly 90% of North America’s host stadiums will require adaptation to extreme heat while one third will face water demand equalling or exceeding supply. The report also highlighted risks to 2030 and 2034 World Cup venues and examined the impact of a warming climate on grassroots football pitches once used by 18…
