More than half of voters in the “Unleash the Power of Crypto News” Telegram group claimed they’ve taken up smoking to deal with the anxiety triggered by President Donald Trump’s sweeping new tariffs.
The April 3 poll asked, “Have you recently developed a habit of smoking due to stress because of Trump?” Out of over 1,000 votes, 51% said “Yes.”
That sparked a flood of dark humor across the group. One user wrote, “I’m glad I’m not alone… I’m going through a pack a day .” The message quickly caught on as users shared a laugh over the absurdity.
The results have unleashed an outpouring of reactions across the group, where market volatility and macroeconomic pressure are already hot topics.
Founded in 2017, the Telegram group has long been a haven for crypto fans. But this week, it’s turned into a kind of digital smoking lounge — full of jokes, but rooted in real frustration.
Even the 49% who voted “No” joined in the banter, as market volatility and macroeconomic fears weigh heavy on traders.
Beneath the jokes is a serious concern. One member wrote, “Trump’s new tariffs just sparked the biggest market selloff since 2020, shaking investor confidence and stoking fresh trade war fears.”
After a strong finish to 2024 — fueled by Bitcoin ETF approvals and rate cuts — the crypto market has cooled sharply in 2025. And now, Trump’s universal 10% tariffs have added to the pressure.
At the time of writing, the total crypto market cap is down 5.37% in 24 hours to about $2.6 trillion. Bitcoin, Ethereum, and especially altcoins have taken a hit, as global markets brace for more economic pain.
